Re: Ipad Mini Mount Recommendations for DA 40

Thanks for these pics and info, looks great. Would the glare shield mount work for a larger iPad? I have an iPad 11 that I’ve been mounting with a suction cup but I can’t take it anymore. It can fall off in turbulence or more extreme cold. Too unreliable. I own the plane so it can be a permanent mou...

Re: Great Lakes tour

In routing order, time permitting: 1.London (cyxu) for a factory tour if you’re into that. Nothing much else of interest there but the people who build our planes are true gems. 2. Billy bishop is the downtown airport for Toronto. Easy and friendly to land and CN tower is a great place for lunch or ...

Re: Frost removal

Thanks for the helpful info!! Back to the plane with car antifreeze, water and a garden sprayer. Enjoyed a fun weekend in Tremblant Quebec but forgot to get my wing covers out of storage.

Re: Aircraft ownership structure

Fun with numbers: depends how you measure inflation. Average cost of a house in 1960 was $11,900. Today it’s $360,000. Using that inflation curve, the 1960 182 at $20k would be $605k today. The $1.4million da62 would have been $46k in 1960, seems like an excellent deal for this technological marvel....

Yes, thanks for pointing it out. That’s an all in price from an experienced shop. They have the plane now so hopefully it all goes well.

Re: Avionics upgrade

To close the loop I ended up going with the uavionix adsb out wing beacon. $3,100 from Aircraft Spruce. Seems to work just fine in the US and southern parts of Canada and simple to install except the integrated red nav light is a lot less bright than the incandescent light it replaced. That and a po...

Re: Aircraft property tax assessment in California

I didn’t realize that some states charge property tax for airplanes. It makes me feel sad and I hope it doesn’t catch on - it’s like death by a thousand cuts. This tax doesn’t exist in Canada. Instead we have a one time sales tax at the time of purchase that varies between 5% and 14% depending on wh...
