Re: Annual Costs
I want to thank (belatedly) all who replied. Sounds like I'm paying quite a bit, even for the Northeast. SouthTec sounds great but it's hard for me to get the time to get my plane there and back.

Annual Costs
I would be interested in what this crowd is typically paying for DA40 annuals. Assume no major squawks. I'm in the Northeast, and there is definitely a premium associated with that -- but I just got charged more than $11k for an annual and for pitot-static checks. No major issues (other than a muffl...

Re: Speed Penalty for Removing Wheel Pants
I just noticed that the DA40 AFM advises that the speed penalty for flying without the "fairings" is "approximately 5%." I guess that translates to almost 7 knots for my normal cruise of 135. That seems like a pretty big hit (although in truth it would not make much difference fo...

Speed Penalty for Removing Wheel Pants
I have never been a fan of the Diamond wheel pants (not that I have that much experience with those on other makes). It is incredibly fiddly to line up the air valves with the tiny holes and then to get my fingers and the air chuck to the valves. As a result, I don't inflate the tires as faithfully ...

Re: Moving from DA40-XLS to DA40-NG Questions
I appreciate this conversation. I have considered upgrading from my 2005 DA40 to a NG. The main reasons for my interest have been: (1) future threat to availability of 100LL, (2) chance to upgrade to NXI/WAAS/GFC 700 (mine is non-WAAS KAP 140), and (3) reduced wingspan for fitting into my 40 foot T-...

Re: DA40 WAAS Upgrade Demand
Similar to Matt H: I have sent several emails to Diamond asking to be put on the waiting list for a WAAS upgrade and offering to pay a deposit if required. I finally got a response giving me an “after sales” case number but no other information. Nothing since then. I am interested in but not surpris...

Re: Lifting up a DA40
So I hear two of you on investigating whether my insurer would pay for relocation during forecast storms. If you know -- does that cover only the hangarage/tie-down costs at the "refuge" location or could it possibly also cover hiring a qualified pilot to do the ferrying back and forth? I ...

Lifting up a DA40
I'm looking for a solution for lifting my DA40 inside my hangar, and leaving it lifted for as long as a week. The reason for the need is the periodic hurricane/tropical storm that threatens flooding where my hangar is (South Ramp area at KBDR in Stratford, CT, near Long Island Sound). After Hurrican...

Re: Rear Door Integrity
I took from my friend's message that the door ajar light came on during flight -- maybe it was also on during run up, but that's not clear. I can ask my friend if he knows. Anyway, I think it's wise advice not to lock the door and possibly prevent emergency egress -- I'm assuming that if the door is...
