Re: Avionics upgrade

Arnauld - The GI275 seems to be more than you need for VFR/no autopilot. If they are certified in Europe you might consider the AV-30C, which comes in both attitude indicator and directional gyro forms -- https://uavionix.com/product/av-30-certified/

Re: Essential bus - Maintenance 1000hr ?

Arnaud - See Chapter 04-00-00 Section 1 and Chapter 05-10-00 Section 3.A of the DA40-180 AMM for Essential Bus. "Check both ends of each wire connected to the battery relay for insecure connection. Check essential bus copper bar (behind circuit breakers) for looseness. Verify proper function.&q...

Re: Confusion about "speed kit" options

Kaj- I also have a 2003 DA40. These year models and earlier ones have the "large" tires. I investigated whether I could add a MLG fairing kit or brake cover kit to the large tires. Unfortunately, these fairings only fit the "small" tires. I could have added the NLG fairing but Di...

Re: Steam DA40 to Glass

Now that it's been shown to be possible, I would probably go with the 500 TXi if it was possible to add a GFC500. Would prefer the G3X Touch, but that's even larger.

Re: Steam DA40 to Glass

Steve- It looks great. I had looked into the G500 TXi but was put off by my avionic shop's estimate of north of $25K so went with the Aspen. Good to know about the G275 EIS and fuel tanks. I had been looking into that as a possible replacement for my VM1000. However, having just added a Surefly mag ...

Re: Portable Hangar parking sensor

I recently was fortunate enough to purchase a hangar with a 41.5 ft entrance for my DA40. What's the best way to paint the three wheel guidelines on the adjoining taxiway to ensure they are straight, weather resistant and perfectly perpendicular to the entrance? Suggestions from other hangar owners ...

Re: Prop governor

My 2003 DA40 with the Aluminum Hartzel PowerFlow Version prop is 1703 lb and 95.2. I've just replaced the aluminum prop with the Hartzel Composite. Awaiting the final numbers because the prop governor had to be overhauled when the new prop failed to make the required full power RPM. I am very glad I...

Re: Standby instruments

In the 2001-03 non-G1000 DA40s the emergency battery powers the mechanical attitude indicator as well. However, many of us have replaced that instrument with an electronic AI, which has its own battery so only the floodlight is powered.
