Re: Tire Damage

I don't think hydroplaning could cause it either (Bridgestone's photo notwithstanding) since, by definition in hydroplaning, the tire is lifted off the runway surface by a layer of water, and thus, no wear occurs. I would have said the same a day ago. Then this Bold Method email showed up today; ht...

Re: TKS Panel Replacement

The conversation with several shops so far has gone along the lines of "Never done it before but sure, we can do that." Being facetious here but I'm reminded of the old ad for AAMCO Transmission: "Let me try boss, I always wanted to fix a transmission!" :) https://www.youtube.com...

TKS Panel Replacement

I am probably going to have to replace a TKS panel on a wing. All panels are working fine except for the right inboard panel. It doesn’t wet out in flight on Normal or High and just a little on the wasteful High/Max setting. When testing on the ground fluid absolutely pours out along the whole panel...

Re: Prop Damage

Are the leading edges made of nickel or stainless steel? In 2021 I spoke with someone from MT who said all their props had nickel, except for the ones on Austro engines.

Re: Austro engine reliability and safety

Look at the Nashville outcome. An entire family is dead, including children. It’s hard to comment any accident without knowing the facts but this area is full of airports. Comparing to Europe, US are littered with airports which greatly increases safety of flying. IMG_2352.jpeg Apparently eve...

Re: Austro engine reliability and safety

Say what you will about the Austro. But the large displacement Continentals are no paragons of reliability. It seems the most common reason for successfully deploying the CAPS has been SR22 engine failures. Causes unknown, of course. Two of these this week. One near Seattle, another in Northern Cal...

Re: Rear Door departs a DA40 after takeoff

“AIRCRAFT DEPARTED, LEFT DOOR FELL OFF AND RETURNED TO LAND, LAS VEGAS, NV.”

Kind of like the first stage of a Space-X rocket.

Guess it's only an Austrian factory thing.
Can a customer in North America order a DA62 with six seats from Austria?

Re: DA50 vs The World

Some data: As of Feb. 2024 there have been 126 Cirrus chute pulls and 253 survivors. So far, when when the parachute was deployed higher than 1000 feet agl and slower than 200 knots indicated, no person has died. Not accurate. I can think of one offhand. Granted, they would not have survived anyway...

Re: DA50 vs The World

We all hope the DA50 will turn out to be the safest, most reliable plane out there. Time will tell. Since you made a comment about the parachute: 8. No parachute - safety Why? This airplane would be much more appealing with a parachute option. This is a super complicated topic. It is very debated on...
