Re: Chrome delamination on cones and inlets
Same here. They replaced all those parts twice. The first time at about 120 hours they gave me more chrome ones. The second time at about 220 hours, I asked for matte silver and they still look great 300 hours later. The "chrome" finish/paint on plastic just doesn't hold up.

Re: G1000 SD cards backup
Just in case it wasn't clear, I was kidding about the TSO.
However, I am sure that SanDisk has a special assembly line and fab facility different than the one used for the 100 million other SD cards SanDisk makes every year just for Garmin's special TSO version.

Re: G1000 SD cards backup
You can use any 2GB cards. I bought Sandisk cards because that's what Garmin uses. Use a hairdryer to heat up the sticker and peel it off and move it. The sticker is TSO'ed, not the card.

Re: DA42-VI AFM released
XM radio gets boring on really long trips. You should hang your iPad on the glare shield and watch movies instead.

Re: DA42-VI AFM released
I'm just curious, on long cross country trips, why do you keep your feet on the rudders? If you are worried about a sudden engine failure, the adverse yaw and roll really isn't a big deal at straight and level trim with cruise power. You can always just grab the FADECs and pull them back or push you...

I agree with Aart. I have always found Diamond's numbers to be pretty conservative.

Re: Front canopy open alarm
In the event that the front canopy is unlatched in flight, the canopy will only open about 1"/25mm. It is VERY hard to close due to the air pressure on it from the slipstream, but it doesn't flip all the way open. I know this from experience. I tried as hard as I could to get it to close, but i...

Re: iPad in DA40
I've been using my iPad for two years in my plane and I just set it on top of my standard aluminum kneeboard. It works perfectly. I wouldn't want a mount for it. I'm curious how you will find it after many hours of use.
