Re: DA50 vs The World

Cirrus gear is not "bouncy", it is on the stiff side. Diamond and Cessna gear are more forgiving of poor airmanship. Having watched way too many Cessna pilots land with all three wheels or occasionally the front wheel first; you can see how with low wing planes with much greater ground eff...

Re: DA50 vs The World

Alan, Join COPA. You will learn a lot about Cirrus, and you can ask Rick Beach and others about the crash statistics. Beyond access to the forum, COPA has many very informative articles in the regular magazine, they run the CPPTs and many other activities. When it comes time to address problems on a...

Out of curiosity, do you still own N1446C?
No, sold my piece of the partnership last summer. We were planning to leave the area, but that fell through. My partners are great guys, and found someone to buy me out.

Re: DA50 vs The World

@alanhawse The data shows exactly opposite what you are arguing on Cirrus. When you compare Cirrus SR22 accident and fatal rates against equivalent planes, e.g. DA-42, Bonanza... You will find that Cirrus is has lower rates or is extremely close to the point it is a statistical tie. The DA-40-180 is...

Re: Leaseback Agreement

I doubt it will pencil out. I did it before with an SR20, the break even for the additional costs (insurance, MX...) was around 100 hours a year; and I managed to lease it out only 150 hours a year. So it did reduce my costs some. Downside, I was flying 150 hours a year, if there are two of you now,...

Re: Diamond China announce its own 'independently designed' domestic aircraft diesel engine, the 'AEC2.0L'

There is an old and trite phrase which applies to manufacturing in China. You get what you pay for. As Dave alluded too, if you are willing to pay like Apple is, you can get very high quality stuff out of China. You can also get junk, like the all the one wheel devices sold on Amazon that were catch...

Re: How to best buy a Diamond Aircraft and afford the lifestyle

On the flip side. I was a partner in an SR22 for over three years before I sold my stake because I was planning to leave the area (did not, and should have kept the plane). It worked extremely well. Our schedules synced very well. My two partners were both mechanically inclined and alternated doing ...

Re: How to best buy a Diamond Aircraft and afford the lifestyle

Chris, Good point on the mountain flying course. I did an online one which covered the basics, and made the simple decision to follow roads, and fly VFR only. Sure I miss out on some things, and do not use the plane to its ultimate capabilities, but I am just not in the larger mountains enough to no...

Re: How to best buy a Diamond Aircraft and afford the lifestyle

Like others, I agree. Get the IFR, and start in a used DA-40 if you want a Dimond. This will get you the ownership experience, along with the starting to learn weather ADM which will be critical in your long term safety. I live in New England now, and have flown a N/A SR22 around the Rockies multipl...

That will teach me to read the specs instead of the regs. :D
