Re: Path to ADS-B & WAAS for older DA40s

Where do I locate my GDU software version? I find a lot of software and system numbers in the AUX page, but nothing labelled GDU software version? (I'm renewing my G1000 package, and am trying to figure out whether I can improve on the the 30 arc second terrain in my 2005 DA40)

Rear canopy latch

Have searched the boards but not quite found this. The rear hatch outer red handle has never fully seated when closed since I bought the airplane. It locks, but the latch doesn’t fully seat. I suspected the plastic covers for the hitch pin holes were off a bit, which seems right because when I took ...

Re: Cabin Fire Caused by Sun and Canopy?

Interesting. I’m just 45 minutes south in St George. N614DS has been spending all her time inside the hangar recently, with temps regularly above 110 F. Really looking forward to cooler, calm Autumn air so I can do scenic flights and not have to start at 0 Dark thirty. Summer is brutal here but Fall...

Re: Water in the bottom of the hull.

This has me wondering about the DA40. I’m in a hangar....in the desert....but I get a warning for right fuel tank low on takeoff, and my autopilot trim recently failed while I was descending and about 1 minute before I was to cross the line below class B airspace.

Re: A Taste of Autopilot on Return from Kern Valley

My wife and I do not make a good student/instructor team. She participates in all our flights, but in our case, it has worked better for her learning to fly in the right seat with others sometimes. A friend with over 20k hours, another friend who’s a retired a United pilot, and a few other CFI’s on ...

Re: Quick Tip: Aeronautical Map with AutoHighlight in ForeFlight

So today I finally took N614DS somewhere, as my wife and I flew a rescue dog from St George to Salt Lake City. First real cross country for us with ADSB in...which is on ForeFlight. Realized in flight that while I prefer North up on the G1000, I prefer Track up on ForeFlight. That way, I see the oth...

Re: Quick Tip: Aeronautical Map with AutoHighlight in ForeFlight

Definitely a “North up” guy here. Which makes me wonder if that’s a product of our age and experience. I’m a State Farm agent, and we have always and forever given away road atlases. I notice now that my older customers really want them, but younger ones couldn’t care less. For us older folks, the d...

Re: Unnerving incident today…

I just noticed last week that the trim wheel was “jammed” by a headset cord. It was as simple as moving it out of the way, but a wee bit unnerving. The headsets plug in so close to the trim wheel, and then come forward for the wearer. The cord was just loosely lying right in front of the trim wheel,...

Re: Grande Canyon Corridors - GPS Waypoints

That’s my neighborhood. There are 4 distinct VFR altitudes through the corridors. Easterly and westerly Cruise altitudes. Stay on them. It’s also important to use the altimeter reading from the designated airport because that’s where they expect you to be. It’s not hard, especially now that apps lik...
