Re: New Nose Wheel Fin

I make it a habit to remove all three fairings (and hence th fin) before annual. I clean and polish the fairings. This makes it easier to inspect brakes, wheels tires, repack wheel bearings, etc. Technically the fin is a major alteration as it does affect the aerodynamic qualities of the airframe. S...

Re: Powerflo Ceramic Coat

I never heard of a chrome and polish shop. Sounds like something from Amercan Graffiti.

Re: Refinishing steps

Thx for all of the suggestions. Getting the steps chromed would involve removing them which appears to be a real pain.

I’m going to try one more ‘quack’ remedy. Clean, remove use, polish and coat with Protectaclear.

Next thing you know, I’ll be putting Marvel Mystery oil in the plane ;)

Refinishing steps

There are two metal steps bolted to the pilot and copilot side to help you enter the cockpit. When I bought my DA40, these were poorly painted. I stripped the paint and polished what I assume is stainless steel. I got both to a mirror finish. However, they soon corroded. I tried waxing them. Then I ...

Re: Squeezed out an extra knot of TAS

A Powerflo gets you about one extra knot of cruising speed per $1000 (including installation). Looks like I owe Rich $1000 as I check my TAS on my 530 all the time when I bored or trying to check head winds on XC flights ;)

Re: Rear Door Integrity

My pre takeoff flow check starts in the rear. Rear door closed and latched. Canopy secure. Trim t/o. ... moving forward to the right of instrument panel and continuing to the left. The manual says if the rear door is not latched, the door is being held down by the safety catch. Do not attempt to sec...

Re: B-Kool Portable A/C

I have a 24 volt b kool. I tried powering from cigarette adapter. Bad noise on certain radio frequencies such as ground at KVNY. 121.7 Tried ferrite filters. No soap. I now use a lithium battery pack consisting of two 12v motorcycle batteries in series. These are lithium iron phosphate which is supp...

Re: Powerflo Ceramic Coat

Steve You are right. But I am one of those compulsive folks who always supervises refueling to make I get 100LL and I attach the ground. I also note the fill in the left and right tank as well as the fuel gauge and fuel totalizer indications so that I can monitor accuracy. I can usually get a minor ...

Re: New Nose Wheel Fin

I’ve owned my da40 for 4 plus years and never had any problems with tire inflation. I check regularly but I never had to add air. I fly 150 plus hours a year and never had a problem in-spite of a very large number of landings.

I suspect there a lot or incorrectly installed inner tubes.
