Re: DA-40 checkride help
My $0.02 is that it's at least as important to study the DPE as it is the airplane. They've all got their quirks.

Re: New DA 62 Owners
Awww...thanks for the kind words! I kept a plastic pitcher (thought I left it there) in the left nose baggage compartment for filing the TKS. I filled it from a 5 gal jug of TKS, and then filled the plane from the pitcher. Worked. BTW, the DA62 is kinda nose heavy. I also kept a collapsible camping ...

Re: Please advise on a da62 purchase.
Back to the original question: If the purchase price matters, I’d go with a used Meridian for about the same $. 900 miles in a DA62 is doable, but damn that’s a long time in the air. You’re exposed to more WX, and for longer. Different story if that’s a once in awhile mission, but if that’s the main...

Re: Twin or Single
Twin or single what is also a good question. A single PT6 is for sure more reliable than 2x piston anything, NG or otherwise, and without the multi engine minus one engine complexity. It’s not as emotionally satisfying as having a spare engine, but the math is better. I like math.

Re: Contemplating long-term suitability of a DA40 for family of 4
Set up a typical W&B in Foreflight and just play with it. It's an awesome airplane, but what you can do with 4 people and any bags is so limited that it seems a very poor fit to me. I'm not an expert, but from observing my friends with children, kids grow fast.

Re: Simulator for a DA62
There’s a very nice X-plane model for the DA62 available. And, it takes a little tinkering but it can be made to work with the Simionic iPad app for the MFD and PFD. Simionic also makes G1000 hardware bezels -you drop the iPads into the bezel, so then you have all the physical knobs and buttons. Sim...

Re: DA62 flight planning
85% seems to result in ~ 175ktas and 16.2 gph across a reasonable range of cross country altitudes.

Re: Nacelle plugs
Just to close this out:
I ended up ordering Bruce’s engine covers instead. Super nice, they go on very quickly - slip over the back of the nacelle and Velcro down the front. Likely faster than plugging up all the openings. Two thumbs up, problem solved.
Cheers
