Re: G1000 NXi Phase II

Another audio panel oddity is that there appears to be no way for center or rear row passengers to hear VHF communications.

Re: Dead battery

The screens are both lit up - hard to miss :) Not too hard, actually. I "heard of a guy who" left the master on and ran the battery down - at Oshkosh, no less. Didn't even notice the screens while "he" put the canopy cover on. I just did some training with Tim McConnell, the best CFII I ever saw, a...

Re: DA62/42-VI dry lease?

Possibly a minor point, but an advantage to leasing a DA42-VI is that FADEC engine management makes it jet engine simple. No need to learn what that gaggle of 6 levers on a Baron/Seminole/Seneca does, nor how to manage and tweak. With Austro engines, you simply choose a load setting on a single leve...

Re: DA42 v DA62 Training Options

For any given model year, DA62 and DA42-VI are virtually indistinguishable from each other in all respects, to include aircraft performance and feel, so I would not dwell too much on the more expensive DA62 for that reason alone. A more important reason to log as much time in the DA62 as possible wo...

Re: Canadian flight training

I used to fly the A-10. Damned thing was so slow that we regularly took bird strikes from the rear. It happen so regularly from Canadian Geese that there was a check box on the maintenance debrief form for "Goosed"...

Re: GWX70 Weather Radar

...Now what I do is a lot simpler: I set the range to 80 nm, and adjust the tilt downward until I just start to see ground clutter at the outermost/furthest range (top of the arc). Then any actual precipitation shows up nicely at all lesser ranges. This is an excellent technique that many, if not m...

Re: GWX70 Weather Radar

I finally found the standby reference for the WX radar being in "standby" prior taxi - This does not appear to be mentioned in the AFM!!?? Sadly, true. You'd think there would be an OÄM for the radar, but there isn't. Luckily, the checklist spells it out clearly. See #7: Screen Shot 2020-05-31 at 6...

Re: DA42-VI vs DA62 Performance

The raw AFM is for the basic aircraft, with no options. Should you purchase the optional TKS (ICE PROTECTION SYSTEM FOR FLIGHT INTO KNOWN ICING) option, then OÄM 62-003 would apply: http://support.diamond-air.at/fileadmin/uploads/files/after_sales_support/DA62/Airplane_Flight_Manual/Supplements/7012...

The freebie video course is decent too!
It is. I've watched it several times - again just now.

Re: GWX70 Weather Radar

The official Garmin document "Garmin G1000 Pilot’s Guide for the Diamond DA62" http://static.garmin.com/pumac/190-01896-01_a.pdf provides some of the best guidance I've ever seen for airborne radar in general and is a superb reference for your GWX70. Read the whole chapter, starting on page 351, abo...
