Re: Any DA-42 misfuelings?

The plane never flew again with those engines so I presume it was on the ground. I no longer remember the details

Re: Securing a portable oxygen bottle

I purchased the large bottle from Mountain High and just strapped it to the back of the right seat. If I knew I was going to fly over 8000 feet I would turn it on before flight. The O2D2 controller was able to be turned on and adjusted during the flight. Since I returned my DA42 to Diamond (that’s a...

Re: Any DA-42 misfuelings?

What happens when a diesel DA42 engine is fed avgas? Does it just stop or does it still run enough to give you enough power to land at the nearest airport? My only experience with this is my wife once fueled our diesel Sprinter RV with 87 octane gasoline. It set a check engine light but ran enough ...

Re: Any DA-42 misfuelings?

The article attached below is about the guy who was my DPE, back when I did my private pilot check ride down in Tampa. https://www.tampabay.com/news/hillsborough/2019/10/11/plane-filled-with-wrong-type-of-fuel-before-crash-that-killed-tampa-plastic-surgeon-ntsb-says/ This happened just 25 miles fro...

Re: Any DA-42 misfuelings?

It's been a long time since I have been on this board, or even responded to a message. But, I will re-emphasize just what Dave wrote. In my 9+ years of owning a DA42, I have had several FBOs try to put 100LL into my DA42 even thought there are placards all over the tanks that say JetA only. I never ...

Re: DA42 as a true four (and a half) seater?

Its been a while since I’ve been on this forum! I just want to see that whatever you hear from Diamond Canada is a moving target. When WAAS became available I asked about upgrading my G1000 to WAAS. I was told they would only do it if I converted to a NG with Garmin autopilot and they would not cons...

Re: G1000 KAP 140 NAV to APR transition question

After this discussion on standard rate turns, I decided to check the behavior of my G1000/KAP140 today. It took 2:37 to turn right 360 degrees and 2:55 to turn left. Not sure if I there's anything that needs to be done to address this, or if I just have to live with it. Time goes slowly when you're...

Re: G1000 KAP 140 NAV to APR transition question

I just looked in my log book and have done over 40 approaches in actual with nearly everyone of those an ILS (I did not have WAAS in my DA42 and the autopilot was a KAP140). I can't recall a single ILS approach that gave me problems with the localizer (although I did have one which I had to go misse...

Diamond Sales

It was great to see CFIDave and his wife Sue yesterday at our sleepy and quiet(?) airport. He gave a couple of demo rides to potential buyers of a DA62, and watching that plane take off made me sad about having to give up my DA42. At least it seems that sales of new Diamond aircraft are really picki...

Re: G1000 KAP 140 NAV to APR transition question

Yes, not only loaded but also activated. I now fly behind a 430W and that has another "Gotcha". Unlike the G1000, when ILS is loaded into flight plan, the frequency is placed in standby slot and has to be manually switched to active position. I have missed this, too.
