Re: G1000 KAP 140 NAV to APR transition question

After this discussion on standard rate turns, I decided to check the behavior of my G1000/KAP140 today. It took 2:37 to turn right 360 degrees and 2:55 to turn left. Not sure if I there's anything that needs to be done to address this, or if I just have to live with it. Time goes slowly when you're...

Re: G1000 KAP 140 NAV to APR transition question

I just looked in my log book and have done over 40 approaches in actual with nearly everyone of those an ILS (I did not have WAAS in my DA42 and the autopilot was a KAP140). I can't recall a single ILS approach that gave me problems with the localizer (although I did have one which I had to go misse...

Diamond Sales

It was great to see CFIDave and his wife Sue yesterday at our sleepy and quiet(?) airport. He gave a couple of demo rides to potential buyers of a DA62, and watching that plane take off made me sad about having to give up my DA42. At least it seems that sales of new Diamond aircraft are really picki...

Re: G1000 KAP 140 NAV to APR transition question

Yes, not only loaded but also activated. I now fly behind a 430W and that has another "Gotcha". Unlike the G1000, when ILS is loaded into flight plan, the frequency is placed in standby slot and has to be manually switched to active position. I have missed this, too.

Re: G1000 KAP 140 NAV to APR transition question

This may sound silly, and i apologize if it is, but did you enter the approach into the g1000 with all the fixes? I have at times forgotten to put in the approach.

Re: What comes after a DA40?

That's the same fuel burn as the Cirrus jet, Cary. But I think you are climbing faster. (Although JetA is quite a bit cheaper than 110LL.) I do miss the efficiency of the DA42. While it was not as fast in the climb or at cruise, burning on 11.2 gph in cruise with the DA42 was much better than my cu...

My Bonanza is fast enough for me. I'm still trying to learn to fly this plane. While it climbs >1000 fpm up to maximum altitude, it burns 36+ gph in the climb!

Re: What comes after a DA40?

Tommy? Toooomy? Guess what happens. I met 2 new friends and we are flying around in an Aerostar 700P. I even got to hand fly it for a bit. Wow. This is serious turbine performance. We climbed out of Geneva at 165 KIAS and 1'500 fpm! The aircraft is incredibly complex, but it is truly a wonderful fl...

Re: Bose ProFlite Headset PIREP in a 42-VI

FWIW, I have been flying with my Quiet Technology headset for more than 6 years ( https://www.quiettechnologies.com/ ). I used them in my DA42, in a Cirrus SR20 and SR22, in a C310, and now am using them in my Bonanza. I really love this headset and have relegated by Bose ANR set to the right seat p...

Re: What comes after a DA40?

This is what I got almost 10 years ago upon selling my 2003 DA40. This is a Mooney M20K rocket. I got a new paint job almost a year ago, and new leather interior - and also a new prop about 3 years ago. They say Mooneys are hard to land, and like to float and porpoise and all that, and perhaps its ...
