Re: Trim slipping

Brock, how did this story end...? Referencing your most recent post on this, did tightening the pivot bolt and nut that holds the whole thing together in the center console resolve the issue? Conducting an annual right now, and during the last annual I believe the friction trim block in the tail was...

Re: Do we need a Plan B already!? Weather Analysis for Flying the Caribbean...

OK... since this thread has involved aviation and boating (in the Bahamas), I hope someone will have the answer to my question. I will be sailing from Nassau to the Exuma Islands on February 16th, and apparently there will likely be a GPS black out that day due to military exercises somewhere in the...

ForeFlight Glide Advisor

I have always been curious as to how accurate the FF Glide Advisor is, set to the standard DA40 settings. So, was up with my CFII and we decided to pick an airport (uncontrolled) and chop the power at the precise moment the glide range overlayed the target airport, pitch for best glide and see if we...

Hi Wayne, looks like a super trip. The planning looks very thorough, so cannot add to anything there. The only suggestion I would make is that the Exumas is just a sensational part of that region. I have flown in there before in a C182 with the family, and visited twice since then. You probably know...

Re: "Kick protector" ideas?

I always give a quick demo, explaining the best places to hold on/put your hands, and then to step directly onto the floor, not onto the seat. I have never had a passenger seem to mind, as I explain why it is important to not to step on the seat and so on.

Re: Short Field Take Off

When to remove flaps is an interesting debate. At a recent WINGS seminar I attended, the speaker (cannot remember who but was extremely experienced) was an advocate of the approach to not touch / change ANYTHING until getting up to 2000 ft. And that meant leaving T/O flaps till then. I asked the spe...

Re: Autopilots are the answer, not the problem...

Tommy, I tend to agree with your comments, although, I am no where near as experienced as you to be able to compare all the different avionics options on the market. During my time owning an XLS which was configured the same as yours with WAAS, I too found the capabilities just wonderful. Now in an ...

Re: Activating Approach

I am assuming you are using a G1000. The procedure I use is... the very moment you start to receive vector(s) from the approach controller, I hit "activate vectors to final" on the PFD. Then, when you hear the words "cleared for the approach" I hit the "ARP" key. I believe Activate Approach on the M...

Re: G1000NXi - The Missing Features

Andrew I did. I came to Diamond 42-VI via a 22T. I do consider it an upgrade. David, This is exactly my point... if Diamond were to be more responsive on the software and also spare parts availability, then geez could they have a sensational business. Until then, in my view people like you will be ...

Re: G1000NXi - The Missing Features

I always thought that one day I would pay the (significant) price premium to buy a new Diamond plane based on how much I love and enjoy the product, but with issues like what Russ points out above, and also Dave, it seems that new plane premium is even harder to justify... BTW, some of you may have ...
