Re: Activating Approach

I am assuming you are using a G1000. The procedure I use is... the very moment you start to receive vector(s) from the approach controller, I hit "activate vectors to final" on the PFD. Then, when you hear the words "cleared for the approach" I hit the "ARP" key. I believe Activate Approach on the M...

Re: G1000NXi - The Missing Features

Andrew I did. I came to Diamond 42-VI via a 22T. I do consider it an upgrade. David, This is exactly my point... if Diamond were to be more responsive on the software and also spare parts availability, then geez could they have a sensational business. Until then, in my view people like you will be ...

Re: G1000NXi - The Missing Features

I always thought that one day I would pay the (significant) price premium to buy a new Diamond plane based on how much I love and enjoy the product, but with issues like what Russ points out above, and also Dave, it seems that new plane premium is even harder to justify... BTW, some of you may have ...

Re: Bahamas PIREP

Thanks for sharing! Now that you’ve done the trip and seen how little time you spent truly out of reach of land, do you think you’d rent the raft again or feel comfortable making the trip with good vests? Last time I flew to the Bahamas it was to the Exumas. Sensational trip, one I will always reme...

Re: Intermittent AHRS fail

Jeffrey, did you try the connectors to the PFD/MFD display panel(s) / screen(s)? That is where the issue was for me...

Re: Intermittent AHRS fail

Jeffrey, I had a similar issue with my G1000. A very helpful avionics person on the field simply took the screen off and on one of them, the connector must have been vibrating loose and hence the intermittent failures. She just unplugged the connector, then plugged it back in and made sure the conne...

Re: Always Learning...

Dave, I believe there have been several cases on the east coast of Florida where some airports are really close together, where at night planes have accepted a clearance to land and ended up... at the wrong airport! Another reason for using instrument approaches at night.

Always Learning...

Yesterday I was flying from Baltimore to Boston. It was late in the day, and I would be arriving into Boston well past sunset. The forecast and METARS were all great, clear skies and seemingly no issues. And a tailwind! I had my routing from my filing with Foreflight, received confirmation As Filed....

Re: Shortest Field You Are Comfortable Taking Your '62 Into?

So I called my CFII about this, who knew the pilot in question quite well. I know this sounds terrible to say, but his immediate response was that the person involved was frequently observed cutting corners, he had been observed breaching regulations by other pilots, and had a jumbo sized ego and se...

Yes, twin Aerostar. Of course have to wait and see more from the investigation.
