Re: AOG in Cleveland at Burke Lakefront KBKL

Don't you have a whole other engine to get you out of there? Seriously, I'm sorry I can't help but if you are going to pick an airport to be AOG, that's one of my favorites.

Re: NG vs XLS

Maybe I'm misguided but I always felt the IO-360 is safer because of it's lower stall speed and where the cg is placed. It's been awhile since I've looked at Diamond accident data so perhaps I'm wrong. This probably makes no difference once you have >350 hours in type, but for new pilots, it might m...

Re: Any DA-42 misfuelings?

What happens when a diesel DA42 engine is fed avgas? Does it just stop or does it still run enough to give you enough power to land at the nearest airport? My only experience with this is my wife once fueled our diesel Sprinter RV with 87 octane gasoline. It set a check engine light but ran enough t...

Re: Weather radar upgrade on a DA42

And GWX 70 that I have installed in my NXi DA62 is also now obsolete; newer unit is GWX 75 with a wider field of view (sweep angle). But GWX 75 isn’t certified in our planes with NXi. Having owned planes with all three radars, I'd say the 70 was a nice step up from the 68. It paints weather with mu...

Re: Outrageously Low Jet A Pricing

You have to pay to be a CAA member and it's not available at as many airports as other fuel cards, but where it's available, it's usually a great deal. You would need to look at the available airports and then see if it is worth it for a fuel sipping Diamond. In the M600, I can save the annual fee w...

Re: DA40 vs. Cirrus SR20

I am probably a pretty good person to answer this question as I have a lot of experience in both. For background I am a CSIP (Cirrus Standardized Instructor Pilot), and also own 3 Diamonds used in flight training, and have trained students in new and used aircraft of both. Having owned both, I agre...

Re: DA40 vs. Cirrus SR20

If safety is the paramount objective, wouldn’t you want the IO-360 avgas version with its lower stall speed and more balanced loading over the NG?

Re: Missed Approaches with G1000 & NXi

I may be wrong about this but I think I read somewhere that the reason for these waypoints is to prevent a scenario, particularly when you fly a coupled missed, where you hit the GA button and then quickly hit the NAV button. Without a climb straight ahead waypoint, the autopilot or FD may start a t...

Re: G1000NXi with ESP - Missed Approach

The AP stays engaged when you hit GA - at least it does in the M600 I fly and it did in the Cirrus I flew as well. After that you can hit HDG if you are given vectors for a missed or NAV if you want the AP to fly the missed as listed in the flight plan you have loaded. So autopilot the entire way if...
