Re: G1000NXi with ESP - Missed Approach

The AP stays engaged when you hit GA - at least it does in the M600 I fly and it did in the Cirrus I flew as well. After that you can hit HDG if you are given vectors for a missed or NAV if you want the AP to fly the missed as listed in the flight plan you have loaded. So autopilot the entire way if...

Re: Weather Radar or Satellite link?

I find if I turn the gain up while flying IMC in a convective environment, I can use the radar to spot turbulence. It will show up as green pixels on the screen and won’t be there with calibrated gain. I’m flying with a GWX-75 and this method works really well. It also worked with the GWX-70 I used ...

Re: Some DA62 "Growing pains"

It might be mechanical because when you run different scan settings, each scan takes longer. It's a great feature and not just if you have two pilots. I use it often flying near convection because I will have one tilt at the normal position and if convection is building, I'll put a second tilt at a ...

The most amazing thing about this is something at the Aspen airport is free.

Seriously though, nice job Diamond.

Re: What should Colin's next plane be?

I think the overhaul price at 3,600 hours might be $200k. I don’t know and I try not to think about it. I just hope I’m still flying something when I put that many more hours on a plane. The hot section at 1,800 hours is much less expensive and seems to be in the range I quoted unless something is v...

...that’s pretty much all there is to it until 1,800 hours.
And at 1800 hours it is either HSI or a decent used DA40, correct?
No the 1,800 hour hot section for the PT6 in the Meridian and M600 seems to average between $20k - $30k. The overhaul at 3,600 hours costs a lot more.

Re: What should Colin's next plane be?

You can cut your PT-6 failure chance in half by looking at a Meridian or a TBM instead of a King Air. Also cuts your fuel use in half too. :D Happy to take you flying in an M600 if you ever want a test ride. I only have about 20 DA42 hours but Lance isn’t far off. Start in the M600 is flip two switc...

I like the second place winner. I would use some of those ideas on the paint scheme for my DA62.
Colin,

Are you saying you are getting a DA62?

Re: The 1,000 Pound 1,000 Mile Challenge

The big difference in the step up from a DA62, aside from speed, is pressurization and flight level > FL250 flying. That really makes for an all weather plane, especially if you live in the Rockies like I do. But yeah, even if you go for a legacy twin like an MU2 which has a lower acquisition cost, ...
