How did the trip to the factory go? Did you get to test fly the 50? One of the dealers told me yesterday it is a 190 KIAS airplane. Would love to find out if that is true.

Re: AHRS Failure

I experienced AHRS failure during a long CC on Saturday between Victoria, BC and Provo, UT. It was really aggravating as I expect that stuff to be bulletproof. I had the avionics tech look at it today and he believes the magnotometer has failed. I was hoping for a connector but he does not believe t...

Shut Down Proceedure

So i was just reading the POH/AFM (whichever you prefer to call it) and discovered the recommended shut down is different than I was taught. I pull power to idle, turn off avionics, Alt/Batt OFF, then pull the mixture and finally remove the key. POH says Avionics OFF 1000 RPM, key OFF until noticeab...

Re: Carbon Monoxide detector

I flew out of North Las Vegas yesterday when it was 110 degrees. The airplane performed beautifully and I was able to manage temps without any trouble, which was a concern of mine. The one issue was a CO alert on my 2007 XL. I opened the windows to make sure I had enough fresh air. The light remaine...

What Oil Do You Run?

I am approaching an oil change and wonder if anyone has done the research if it truly makes a difference what oil you run in your 40. I find most people where I fly go with the Phillips X/C 20/50. That is the most readily available. There are two other product however I can buy, one is the Aeroshell...

Re: How Much of an IFR Machine is the DA40?

Just to clarify: Flying between Victoria and Provo doesn't really involve flying in "The Rockies" and MEA's aren't quite so bad. But icing is still a consideration. As a long-time IFR flyer in the Puget Sound area (including into/out of CYYJ), very commonly you'll find that the IFR you en...

Re: How Much of an IFR Machine is the DA40?

Antione, Thanks for your quick reply. An additional 50% dispatch would make a big difference to me. I am encouraged by that. CYYJ has a tendency for low non-convective clouds. As long as I can fight through that to get on top, I will be able to fly a lot more often. What did you transition to and wh...

How Much of an IFR Machine is the DA40?

I am a 160 hour pilot, now working on my instrument rating. A mission I hope to do a half dozen times a year is from Utah to Victoria, BC. I did it for the first time in perfect conditions (other than a headwind both directions) a couple of weeks ago. KPVU to CYYJ is one of the reasons I got my pilo...

Re: VFR Flight Following Nudge

I request FF on every cross country flight, without exception. I also drop off from time to time but ATC seems to always tell me when I will need to attempt to get on again. I do not see traffic very well and I love the extra set of eyes. It gives me a great deal of comfort.

Looking for an MT Prop Hub

My propeller went into the shop this week to be overhauled and it was discovered the hub will have to be replaced. If anyone can give me a suggestion on where I might find a replacement hub, I will be very appreciative.
