major fuel probe related issue -- need help
Hello all, I am experiencing a major issue that has more or less grounded my DA40 for the past 5-6 months, and resulted in the R/H fuel probe being replaced three times. At the outset (in late November), the plane has an intermittent R/H fuel gauge indication (occasional red-X). As you can imagine, ...

Re: Eng Inst X-d out
I am having a similar problem currently. Red X on RH fuel gauge. Failed again after fuel gauge replaced, identified to static bonding issue in wing "shorting" out the gauge. Currently in process...

Re: wing walk replacement
Referencing the other related thread "Wing Walk upgrade", I replaced my right side wing walk (the gray sandpaper style one) with 2 inch safety tape. I opted for the gray instead of clear as I want my passengers to clearly see where to step. To remove the adhesive after pulling off the old...

+1 for the Rocky Mountain covers -- they are perfect, may even be better than the factory version

Re: What do you charge yourself for flight hours?
Hi Bill, I have had my plane in a club for the past 18 months or so. I have found the my variable operating cost per hour is about $60-65 per TACH hour (this assume ~350 tach hours per year). This includes all maintenance, but not fuel, which would add another ~$40 per hour (8gph x $5). This may be ...

Re: G1000 SD-Cards wont release
Hi Gerhard, I find that it depends on the card since they are not "machined" to the finest specifications :) Some cards are better than others, and I end up not using the ones that get stuck. Also, they may degrade a bit which could explain a card that no longer fits well. Finally, tempera...

Re: PTRM failure on GFC700
Thanks Steve, useful Garmin link, thanks for sending. The GSA 81 was that was swapped for my GFC700 cost $900 plus markup (since you have to buy through a dealer). I hope I don't go through one of these a year, like popcorn...

Re: PTRM failure on GFC700
Hi all, just following up on this. Checked the wiring harness for shorts, etc, and also had some advice that this may be a software issue but the culprit was neither of these issues. It turned out to be a simple a pitch servo failure -- the tricky part was that it was a fault in the electronics of t...

Re: I'd love a DA40, but is there one with enough useful load?
Quick clarification on this thread. It's not the G1000 platforms per se that made the CG go aft. This was instead driven by other (TAS, other) upgrades that came out with the XL and XLS models. Put another way, there are plenty of 2004 to 2006 DA40s out there with G1000s that have forward CGs (close...

Re: I'd love a DA40, but is there one with enough useful load?
Hi Noah, I faced a similar decision about a year ago, when I bought my 2007 DA40 for my family of four, albeit my kids are lighter than that but still growing. In early 2007, Diamond made a handful (fewer than 100) of "hybrid" planes -- these are DA40s but with the GFC700. Later in 2007, t...
