Re: Nickels and dimes

Hmm... I agree with your general point, but in my case I do think about hundred dollar incremental expenses because if I didn't there are enough such cases that they could add up. For the example you cited, if you do suddenly have a need for the Canada subscription you could purchase it then. I have...

Re: Grande Canyon Corridors - GPS Waypoints

...can I cut across the SFRA at 14,500 MSL and higher (e.g. flying at 15,500 traveling NW to SE, or 16,500 traveling SE to NW)?
I can't think of any reason why you couldn't. Incidentally I was there yesterday - KSEZ VPGCA (11,500') VPGCB KBFL, talking to LA center. Almost no one else around.

Re: Best sun shade for DA40?

I have almost the same pirep as Russ. We just returned to San Jose CA today from a trip to the the Dallas TX area. The jet shades arrived a couple of days before the start of our trip on June 26th so they were first used on this trip. It was a good test case because of the record high temperatures t...

Re: Buying Advice / Pre-buy Inspection Recommendation

Find a proper tax consulting firm before the purchase. For my DA40 I was in California. I took delivery in Nevada, flew 51% of the first year out of the state and the "Safe Harbor" tax provision meant I didn't pay sales tax in California. Same here. I took delivery in North Carolina, brought it to ...

Re: Path to ADS-B & WAAS for older DA40s

Okay, Scott - today I carried out the tests you suggested. > 1) are you currently able to receive any AHRS data on your iPad? > 2) or has your FS110 wiring (capped off) knocked the 345R AHRS data offline? Yes, able to receive, so apparently the wiring itself has not disabled the GTX345R data > If yo...

Re: Path to ADS-B & WAAS for older DA40s

I did my GTX345 upgrade last week (this post: https://www.diamondaviators.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=6746&start=42) ). My installation also included wiring for a Flightstream 110 under the passenger seat - the avionics shop didn't receive my FS110 in time so they tested the installation with anot...

Re: Path to ADS-B & WAAS for older DA40s

My airplane is virtually identical to Chris B's N171CB (and is at the same airport) so I basically copied his approach at the same avionics shop - i.e. GTX345R with the internal combo XM/GPS antenna. Reading this thread was useful and timely, and I'm doing the following with respect to Flightstream:...

Re: Recommendation for wheel pants repair.

Glenn Lawler of Southtec Aviation at KRUQ in North Carolina repaired my wing tip recently. They did a great job.
