Another choice is to get Jeppesen approach plates in ForeFlight and see them on an iPad. The iPad is connected to the G1000 via the FS510/FS210 so the current position is displayed on the geo-referenced plates. Further to Russ's point... The DA40NG does not have an in-flight rudder/yaw trim or a yaw servo, so there is no yaw damper. The autopilot cannot compensate for the left-turning tendencies, so the AFM does not allow enabling the AP below 800' AGL (except when flying a coupled approach to 200' AGL). On a 2021 trip to Alaska in my best bud's C182 we carried a small canister of bear spray, double bagged. If I remember correctly we maxed out at about 12,000' MSL. I have no idea how smart that was or was not.
