Re: IFR Oakland PilotsNPaws with Levi (Full ATC)

Great video, Wayne. This makes me feel interested in the volunteer flight. I love animals. Are small puppies ok with the airplane noises for 2-3 hrs? Are they stay calm during the flight without somebody's attention? I'm just curious. Tosh, thanks for watching... and considering volunteering to tra...

Re: IFR Oakland PilotsNPaws with Levi (Full ATC)

Wayne. Another great video. As a pilot, I really enjoy listening to you and Levi work the fundamentals of this and other IFR flights. But, I would also like to see a little more on your, preparing the plane, handling of the puppies, And working with the volunteers. These details might help me bette...

IFR Oakland PilotsNPaws with Levi (Full ATC)

On this flight to the smoky Bay Area, Levi captains his first PilotsNPaws transport. We’re taking three lovely senior dogs Mandy, Ketchup & Mustard as they seek a second chance at life arranged by Muttville, a great rescue group.

Re: IFR/VFR - Monitoring the (Human) Engine Inflight (Full ATC)

Steve, thanks for watching... and BIG thanks for adding your legit expertise to the topic. On this one-pilot one-day data sample it was quite interesting that HR was influenced by phase of flight, but all the inflight measurements were way lower than simply driving home.
Best regards,
Wayne

IFR/VFR - Monitoring the (Human) Engine Inflight (Full ATC)

nKtVferb8Gg For very good reasons, we spend time, money and energy monitoring our aircraft engines. Today, using his Fitbit watch, we check on the condition of our pilot Levi’s human “engine”. We file IFR and shoot a couple RNAV approaches going missed, then nail a couple VFR landings... all while ...

Caribbean Revisited - Part 2 - RNAV into the British Virgin Islands

qH_AXCn9J6I In Part 2 of this short series we revisit an interesting combined instrument/visual approach with an added maneuver for traffic avoidance -- as it actually occurred IRL, and recreated on a home simulator. This video captures every button push and knob twist for flying the RNAV-A at TUPJ...

Re: Caribbean Revisited - Part 1 - RNAV into Turks & Caicos

Arthur, thanks for the kind words. I'd certainly prefer to be flying IRL in my DA40, but while I'm waiting for my new prop (backordered 2 months) I'll be content flying with friends (including in a Cirrus :) ) and also flying the sim (I find the TorqueSim SR22TN one of the best aircraft on X-Plane)....

Caribbean Revisited - Part 1 - RNAV into Turks & Caicos

MX0fBs26y0Y In January 2020 two best buds and I experienced -- in real life (imagine that!) -- a glorious flying adventure to the Caribbean. Now in the age of COVID I feel a yearning to revisit that adventure. In Part 1 of this series we’ll compare shooting the RNAV approach into the Turks & Caicos...

Re: IFR Currency for Jack - KSMX KPRB KSBA (Full ATC)

Dave, that's excellent firsthand feedback. Seems none of us is a fan of the mode buttons on the center console, and you bring up a super point that the FlightStream 510 nicely negates the need for the keypad (in general, I find the iPad almost always wins for ease of data entry). And... what a smart...

Re: IFR Currency for Jack - KSMX KPRB KSBA (Full ATC)

Modes are really a no-no in UI design. Larry Tesler who was an early architect of UI design, and whom I worked with at Apple, had license plates that read "NO MODES"! The Mode button would significantly change the UI of the G1000. I have a friend who is purchasing a G6 SR22T and it will be interest...
