Re: To File or Not to File (IFR, that is) - Lancaster CA (Full ATC)

Wayne- What's your new prop? Bernie Bernie, a 1 to 1 replacement of what I had... an MT 3-bladed composite. During annual I had the original 1800 hour prop sent out for overhaul... they found corrosion in the hub... there was a 22 week backlog for a new hub, and "only" 12 week wait for a ...

4K! Did you shoot that with the iPhone or GoPro? Russ, yes, both... the view toward the panel is the GoPro (4K), and the iPhone (4K) is used for (a) view of occupants and (b) view out the right wing side. I agree with your observation... the iPhone 12 Pro has more vivid image quality than the GoPro...

Automation is not evil, it is simply an aspect of the aircraft that requires mastery like every other aspect of the aircraft.
All of this "in the good ole days when pilots were real men" shit is nonsense.
Russ, I'm in full agreement... and so well said.
Thanks,
Wayne

To File or Not to File (IFR, that is) - Lancaster CA (Full ATC)

UsKYPej6qmg We’re finally back in the Diamond Star today (smooth new prop and all), giving Levi and his dad Bill a lift to Lancaster. A bit of a nervous flyer, Bill is hoping that the crew upfront can make this an enjoyable flight. Looks like VFR would probably work, but there’s an AIRMET for IFR a...

Zero/Zero (Part 2) - Emergency Landing with Synthetic Vision

WeRAEkVxSdA We’ve seen videos of pilots under-the-hood (with a safety pilot) landing successfully just using Synthetic Vision. In this short episode we examine an emergency scenario and practice a zero/zero landing in the home simulator, hand flown from straight-in final using Synthetic Vision. A l...

Zero-Zero Below and Out of Options - IFR Past Minimums

CFa3Vx-wkAg The darn marine layer has come ashore over the entire region… and we’re short on fuel. What’s the plan, captain?! We shoot an ILS and an RNAV approach in the sim to practice this unlikely (and inexcusable) situation. In addition to good decision making to avoid this predicament, what ar...

Re: Number & Placement of GoPros

Gary, looking forward to your videos. My videos are quite low-production quality and I'm largely a "set it and forget it" person. To your questions: 1) How many cameras do you use Thus far I've limited myself to one camera, inside, that runs from before engine start thru engine stop. I sup...

Vandenberg Low Approach & Simulated Landings (Full ATC)

IgSNmBppKNA “Check wheels down”, but don’t touch down. Today Levi and I shoot a long low approach at Vandenberg Air Force Base… and wonder what else could take place here? The home sim is put to use to explore how many full landings and takeoffs might be accomplished on the 15,000’ runway… and we a...

Fantastic, thanks for the tips. I would likely reactivate my XM weather for a trip like that. Currently reviewing some of your earlier threads about planning the trip, Windy, Foreflight, Supercharger, etc. You are an incredibly prolific video producer! Those take a lot of time, but then you have cr...
