Re: Which GIA63w?
011-01105-00, 011-01105-01 and 011-01105-20 are the compatible part numbers. -01 has some advantages over the -00 and -20 is the most recent. -40 is not compatible.

Re: The glaring weaknesses in flight training
Early on in my flying career I made all the mistakes during my first VFR into IMC encounter. I had only about 90 hours at the time, and was embarking on my first real cross country on my own (outside of training) with a passenger (who got sick early on in the flight yet we continued on.) There was a...

Re: Questions about pitting in the camshaft
We overhauled our engine due to elevated iron levels in the oil analysis and metal filings found in our oil filter. The overhaul turned into a bit of a saga that you can read about on the forum. I'm the end, everything turned out fine. I'll echo what everyone else said. Fly regularly, change the oil...

Re: Engine overhaul time - Lycoming IO-360-M1A
Our engine is also running well now that the oil leak has been resolved. Still have a small leak at the oil filler tube, hopefully that will be taken care of at our upcoming annual. There are some gaps in the baffle I’d like to seal up as well to try and improve cooling on the hottest of days. But k...

Re: One way to put it
I'm always so surprised by these type of accidents. I just don't understand how it happens, at least not on any sort of $100 hamburger flight. Maybe on a long IFR flight where you have to divert and the diversion doesn't work out and you burn through all your extra fuel. But that's just a massive pl...

Re: Rear Door departs a DA40 after takeoff
I've tried to show how the lock mechanism and emergency latch works from the inside. When you pull on the inner bit of the latch (not the larger lever), it slides a bit of metal on the back side of the lever forward. This disengages the bit of metal that hooks behind the lock mechanism, allowing the...

Re: Rear Door departs a DA40 after takeoff
I'm surprised at the news coverage of this. I guess there must not have been much else going on at the time. The above article says the FAA will investigate, but a door departure is not a reportable event. Not quite sure what that is about -- unless some further damage happened during landing? Or pe...

Re: How to best buy a Diamond Aircraft and afford the lifestyle
Absolutely get the instrument rating. It will make you a better pilot, reduce insurance rates, and will come in very handy. A challenge can be staying current. I have a membership to a club here in the city that has a couple BATD simulators, and I can head in there over my lunch break to get a few a...

I'd recommend contacting Brittany at Premier: brittany.jones@flypas.com. If they don't have them in stock they can probably get it quick.

Re: Number of hours for the 6000h
Here are the estimated hours per Diamond: https://www.diamondaviators.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=73683#p73683. 6000 hour would be the 2000+MSI. In the Diamond estimates the number is all inclusive. The 2000+MSI includes an annual. Note that my MSI came in at fewer hours than the Diamond numbers. Clos...
