A DAN Adventure
My bird had its first engine overhaul earlier this year. Immediately following that, my partner took it on a coast-to-coast cross country loop for several weeks. Of course that much use in a short time pulled out all the major post-overhaul failures (hopefully). One of those was the prop governor, w...

Re: Rear Passenger Headrest iPad mount.
Did you try this? I'm now looking to get a mount for the exact same reasons as you, for my 4 yr old.

Re: Tiedown for DA40
You can also tie a figure 8 on the existing tie down ropes and attach the slide down to the end of that. It’s been working for me for years, through hurricanes and more.
Since mine is a permanent install at home base I tied the figure 8 through the slide down’s figure 8 so that they cannot separate.

Re: Tiedown for DA40
Regarding the earlier discussion on this thread from many years ago- I finally found the perfect solution to adapting Slidedown to the tiny tail tie down hole: soft loop motorcycle tie downs: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08YFDTQ5S?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share It’s a small length of heavy duty webbing with...

Re: Off-airport forced landing
I hope that your inflator has a CO2 cartridge that is activated by a pull toggle, rather than immersion. As someone who went through Water Survival training in the Navy, I would advise against having a vest with an immersion-triggered inflator. If it inflates while you are still in the aircraft, an...

Re: Off-airport forced landing
What do you guys think about picking the lake? I’d pick the rockiest field over water. With water, you are likely to flip vs skid over ground. You have to be sure to open the canopy/doors before touchdown as the pressure of the water keeping it closed if you sink will be overpowering. Swimming with...

Re: Rear door primary latch opening. ( I searched I swear)
Be careful when re-engaging that primary bolt. The secondary will hold well until you land when it’s engaged because of how it hooks into the frame. But it can disengage when pressure is removed just right for even a split second. I would not rely on this approach. You can lose your $10k door quite ...

Re: Battery drain during flight plan load.
(Edit: I replied before reading Rich’s post which covers this, but leaving for the personal anecdote) Never do this. It’s dangerous and it irrational. Dangerous: Here is my story. I was with a CFI at a remote field during IR training. We loaded flight plan on battery, chatted for a couple minutes an...

Re: Prebuy fresh out of Annual?
There is plenty of discussion on the forum about purchasing process that you can review like this thread https://www.diamondaviators.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8849 Of course a prebuy inspection is not as thorough as an annual. It’s also a much cheaper informal process, whereas annual is an FAA proce...

Re: Erroneous fuel quantity shown in data log
I would email Garmin support about it, or ask my avionics shop to investigate during next scheduled Avionics check. G1000 is antique tech, I wouldn’t assume that there is only 1 setting to control max fuel limit.
