Re: DA40 down in HI

I'm curious how the ditching went. Did they flip? How did the egress go? I've always wondered about how that would go in a DA40 living around water here.

Re: Path to ADS-B & WAAS for older DA40s

This is all good stuff in this thread so far. I'm going to save a link to it in case we don't update the Wiki for some reason. I spoke to a mechanic yesterday who mentioned that a GDL-82 inline on older G1000 planes is a viable and relatively inexpensive solution for ADS-B out on older G1000 planes....

Re: Path to ADS-B & WAAS for older DA40s

Thanks for the info Matt. Regarding the format, it could be as simple as owners just saying what they have, what they did, and how much it cost. Using Matt's example above, the entry in the WIKI could state: 2007 non-WAAS G1000, installed GTX-345R for ADS-B compliance. Cost was roughly $9K installed...

Path to ADS-B & WAAS for older DA40s

As someone interested in buying a DA40, one thing that would be helpful to potential and existing owners would be to know: A. The available options and ballpark costs for WAAS capability B. The available options and ballpark costs for ADS-B compliance Both of these above are of particularly concern ...

Re: Hm, wonder what this would mean?

Here is my guess for the new SLSA/ELSA rule: Gross Weight: 1650 lbs Max Speed Level Flight: 150 mph / 130 kots Make accommodations for electric propulsion Everything else the same (2 seats, etc, maybe they look at stall speed) The only thing keeping me from going SLSA has been that they needed a few...

3600lbs was the stated number.

Both infallible press sources... I'm going to contain my excitement until I hear it directly from the FAA. There is nothing light or sporty about 3600 pounds so that has me skeptical.

Re: Hm, wonder what this would mean?

They've been talking about bumping it to 1650 pounds to match the European Light Sport standards so this is a little out of nowhere. I'm wondering if someone typoed something (or made a conversion error - 1650kg to lbs). It would be great news if true. I'll wait and see exactly what the FAA says tho...

Diamond Rentals in Idaho?

I'm traveling on business in Idaho this week and was hoping to go flying in this beautiful area this Saturday morning. Does anyone know of any Diamond rentals (DA40 or 20) in the Boise/Mountain Home/Twin Falls area? If there are any owners in this area going flying that wouldn't mind an FAA blessed ...
