Re: Landing Gear Horn

Over the years there have been multiple discussions about what % power to use to simulate a failed/feathered engine on various Diamond twins. Many CFIs have used 20% for DA42 TDI aircraft -- but this is 20% of only 135 hp for Continental (Thielert) 1.7 or 2.0 engines. After I took delivery of a more...

Re: DA62 sanity check on interior/radar

The difficulty in retrofitting radar is that the plane's radome must be replaced with one that passes radio frequencies (RF) and that includes 4 lightning/static straps on its exterior. Painting the radome to match your plane's metallic paint can be an issue. Can you order one with the RF-transpare...

Re: DA62 sanity check on interior/radar

I can confirm that you can get a DA62 without radar and add it later -- that happened by accident on my DA62 5 years ago because Diamond erroneously built my plane in Austria without radar. Diamond flew our DA62 across the pond from Austria to the Canada factory without radar, and then added the GWX...

Re: DA62 sanity check on interior/radar

As noted earlier, installation of the GWX 75 (or GWX 8000) will absolutely *require* G1000 NXi Phase III software in the DA62. Unfortunately NXi Phase II hardware and software that's currently certified and being delivered in new DA62s *only* works with the older GWX 70. So Diamond is forced to cont...

Re: Quebec City Recommendations

It's been a few years now, but we flew our DA42 to Quebec City (with its only FBO) during the month of September -- when daytime temperatures were nice in the 70s F -- and had a marvelous 4-day visit walking around sightseeing and eating in restaurants in the city. Highly recommended.

Re: Anyone have a maneuver cheat sheet for a DA42NG?

And here's the same document for the DA42-VI, with slightly different airspeeds.

(The same important prohibition described above on avoiding windmilling restarts applies.)

Re: Anyone have a maneuver cheat sheet for a DA42NG?

OK, for everyone who has asked for a listing of how to perform maneuvers in a DA42NG, I've attached it here (as a 7-page MS Word document that can be modified). Note that this was created in 2013 before the FAA Commercial checkride transitioned from PTS to ACS, but the maneuvers are still the same. ...

Re: Prop strike on Austro E4-C engines

There's a dual-mass flywheel (with damper) located between the Austro gearbox and engine to absorb the shock of a prop strike. Consequently, an Austro engine prop strike will require a prop overhaul, replacement of the gearbox, and replacement of the dual-mass flywheel. But typically not a new engin...

Re: DA62 First Ever RAAC Retrofit

My Best Tug is more than 4 years old; it's a B9 model. Since that time, Best Tug now offers a virtually identical B8 model, with a different JumpStart/GPU option. It looks like the current model B8's JumpStart option that uses the tug's 4 internal car batteries would be capable of running the DA62 a...
