Re: Newbie Question 2 - Fuel Exhaustion if <15 Gals?

You want to know that you can transfer the fuel to the mains before you need it -- especially when flying long legs over water.

(I actually had one pump fail in flight on my DA42-VI, but fortunately I was still able to get to my destination without accessing all the fuel in the AUX tanks.)

Re: Newbie Question 2 - Fuel Exhaustion if <15 Gals?

Fuel transfer pumps each operate about 1 gal/minute. So they easily keep up with fuel burn.

Re: Newbie Question 1 - Flaps UP takeoff

There's little difference in takeoff using T/O flaps vs. no flaps on the DA62. However T/O flaps will let you climb a bit more steeply to clear an obstacle on the departure.

Re: DA62 or DA42

DME is required for some European countries, but is a waste in the US. Any approach or navigation requiring DME in the US can also be satisfied by using GPS distance as a substitute. I suppose if there were a major GPS signal outage in the US, having DME might be helpful in navigating via "gree...

Re: New Prop STCed for DA40NG

In my experience of operating 3-bladed MT props on a DA40, DA42-VI, and DA62, I found they're quite susceptible to damage, including chipping of their their paint and composite coverings (over the wood core), and dents in the metal leading edges. Perhaps a Hartzell prop will be more durable? I would...

Re: Real Capability

Ever wonder why all light piston twins have about the same single-engine climb rate at max gross weight (or mass on a metric Diamond): only a little more than 200 fpm? (This is pretty terrible, BTW.) That's not a coincidence. During certification, the maximum gross weight for a light twin is often r...

Re: GWX 70 Weather Radar Options

Diamond is limited to installing the GWX70 with current NXi Phase II software. NXi Phase III is needed for newer radars, and we’re still waiting for that.

Not yet. My plane is in for its annual inspection, and I'm letting the maintenance shop diagnose the loss of LEMO headset power.

Apparently I can't send the file to you via private message because you only have 1 post. Try sending me a private message that includes your email address.

Re: DA62 Seat Covers

In our hangar I found the 6 samples that Aerosheep/Covercraft sent us a few years ago, and the sample that represents the sheepskins we have installed in my DA62 (that very nicely matches the beige leather interior -- see photos above) is marked "Tan" with the code "SC10."
