I use Jeppesen, as I fly a lot outside US, Caribbean and South America. Always keep my databases updated, via download to the SD cards, as per guidelines. Since almost a year, I always get, on startup, the message copied below: Do you want to update active database, from the current version to one almost 2 years old. Easy decision, no, but always a wait, and a button more to press at startup. Any idea how to get rid of this nuisance?
Any other remarks on JEPP vs. Garmin databases?

Re: G1000 JEPP NAV Database update
You must have a card in the top slot of your MFD with the 2013 database update on it. If you remove that card, you will no longer get this message when you power up.
You don't need a card in either top slot. If you put an empty card in the top MFD slot, you will get flight logs recorded. I suspect your "data" card also has the old 2013 release files on it. You can delete the file called "feat_unlk.dat" and the folder named "ldr_sys" from your data card - this will solve the problem. Assuming, of course, that IS the problem!

Re: G1000 JEPP NAV Database update
Had similar issue recently. G1000 asked on boot up if I want to update to latest version. Foolishly I said yes!
Update happened no problem then half the G1000 functions went into sulk mode and error message came up "Data base mismatch" or something similar.
Long story short, had to swap SD cards from PFD to MFD and repeat the process before it corrected the issue and started functioning normally.

I tried Rick's method (and removed the folder entirely from the card). Still got the prompt asking if I wanted to update a newer database with an older one. Odd. I wonder what it is reading and from where.
I need to keep that card in the MFD because I like the logs.

Colin, do you still get the same message if you completely remove the upper MFD card? Do you have ANY card in the upper PFD slot?Colin wrote:I tried Rick's method (and removed the folder entirely from the card). Re: G1000 JEPP NAV Database update
I forget the exact name of the file, but at one point I wound up with a 'stby_avtn.bin' file on the bottom slot cards on both the PDF & MFD. It caused the exact same thing you were seeing above.
I wound up throwing the cards in a computer and removing those files and the glitch fixed itself.
(This shouldn't be a Jepp v Garmin thing, as all of the navdata comes from Jeppesen anyways.)
