A messy day...

Post by Steve »

Hadn't flown in a couple of weeks, so even though the weather wasn't great, I took her up for a trip around the lake (Canyon Lake, near San Marcos, TX). Everything went well until I had the aircraft back in the hangar and was wiping the bugs off. I noticed a trail of wetness from my compass running down the glare shield while the canopy was up. I quickly pulled the compass, and sure enough, about half of the fluid had leaked out.

Of course, the thing is over 13 years old, and the I know that diaphragm doesn't last forever. I guess the compass fairy will be paying me a visit soon...

That's why they used to put whiskey in it. You don't mind if it leaks.
