ADSB for G1000 in a 2010 DA40 XLS
Hi - Has anyone installed in the US installed ADSB yet?
I have a 2010 DA40 XLS with G1000 including WAAS and synthetic vision. I would like to avoid the rush and get ADSB installed sooner rather than later. Especially since ADSB is up and running here on the US East Coast.
Diamond tells me that there is no module approved for use with G1000
Garmin tells me that Diamond has not requested anything for their G1000 users.
The mechanic at the avionics shop shrugs his shoulders.
Has anyone figured this out yet?
Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the article. I see that the last update was recently (12Aug), so I'll starting watching there.

Supposedly the GDL 88 should work. I am more worried for those of us with no WAAS.
Diamond committed to me that they will have a solution.
I am strongly considering the Freeflight Ranger and using iPad for display - though my shops says it may display on G1000 using standard traffic and WX protocols.

Garmin told me at Oshkosh that they will have a version of the GDL88 that has internal WAAS so that it can be used in avionics that don't have WAAS.Charles K wrote:Supposedly the GDL 88 should work. I am more worried for those of us with no WAAS.

The value proposition on that solution (already exists) is challenging - 6 AMUs plus install for no weather, no LPV...?carym wrote:Garmin told me at Oshkosh that they will have a version of the GDL88 that has internal WAAS so that it can be used in avionics that don't have WAAS.Charles K wrote:Supposedly the GDL 88 should work. Agreed - the Ranger is much less expensive !
Where we really got hurt - and I keep hitting up Diamond to no avail - is that, in writing, the GIA63 was promised to be upgradeable - not replaceable at a cost of 22K. It is written as upgradeable on the sales order sheet for mine and everyone's non WAAS plane orders.

I see in the latest AOPA magazine that Garmin has developed a software update for the King Air version of the G1000. No doubt that was at the request of Beechcraft. Maybe we need to speak with one voice other than Diamond to make this happen.

We talked with them this past weekend at the South Carolina Aviation Expo. They have a 4,000 solution that will work with the transponder on the g1000. You will not have "in" on the g1000 screen but you will have "in" sent by a wifi box in the plane. All that is needed is a FAA field approval in which they said they have been very successful in getting as word have come down from FAA Headquarters to fast track these requests.
They are currently working with foreflight and a few more on the integration portion. I was very impressed at the current looks and for those of us without the WAAS, no worries as they have a built in position source. We are going to be installing one of these in the near future to see how it works out. We will keep you up to date.

I don't know Chris. To have a $30,000 G-1000 display (or however much it is valued at) and not be able to see Wx and below FL18 ADS-B traffic on the MFD seems like just another kind of kludging. I would prefer to see an integrated solution. Doesn't seem like too much to ask of Diamond, especially since other manufacturers have worked it out with Garmin.csikes91 wrote:http://www.freeflightadsb.com/
