Wax Decals and other Non Paint Areas?

Post by rwtucker »

Common waxes recommend against applying to anything other than paint. This would rule out things like the decals, MT prop edge, canopy molding, silicone sealing lines, and maybe even the wing walks.

Has anyone done any research on this or does anyone have some long term experience one way or the other? What wax are you using?

I use Zaino over everything. Easy on and off. No issues with my decals.

Zaino is the bomb. I use it everywhere, but Rejex is a little more durable for areas that we wipe down often - the leading edges of the wings, tail and the wheel pants. So I go over the Zaino with Rejex in those areas.

I keep hearing about rejex. I need to check it out. Zaino has a product that's pretty new that's an acrylic polymer. It cures on and my first application seems to last pretty long. Wings still bead water after 5 months.

I need to put on another coat as the bugs are starting to get tough to get off again.

I use z3 for the paint. I use z-cs for the wings and leading edges.

There leather stuff smells great for the interior. I've used there plastic polish and a random orbital sander to polish out the canopy and taxi light covers.

I dilute z6 with distiller water to clean off bugs post flight.

I've used about all there stuff over the years. No complaints.

I have been very satisfied with Rejex. When first applied and removed, it's not that great. But, after sitting 12+ hours in the hanger out of the sun (per the instructions on the bottle), you will be amazed.

Next time I wax my DA40, I am going to try Zaino for comparison.

The best thing about Zaino is its easy on and off. A little goes a long way and the most common mistake is to apply too much. The product that is probably most like rejex is the clear seal by Zaino.

I just got back from waxing the entire plane and it only took a little over an hour. Wiped on, took a break and wiped it off once it dried. Ill let that layer cure then put a coat of clear seal on the wings and tail tomorrow and let that cure for 24 hrs.

Let me know what you think for comparison. Ill have to give rejex a try.

AOPA article on aircraft maintenance just advocated Rejex. Sounds like folks here have had good experience with it, but is it safe to use on our plane in the spirit of not using silicone products, i.e., if you use it, would repainting or touch-up in the future be difficult?
