Diamond meets Pilatus

Post by Thomas »

I am so proud when Pilatus Aircraft Ltd. showed the world their new product, the PC24 Business Jet, last Friday August 1st. the Swiss national day, it was a stunning Show. All current and past Pilatus Aircraft where shown in a small but beautiful airshow.

The Roll out ceremony at "My Airport"

I was more proud to park my Diamond on this historic spot.

Thomas!
Rightfully you are proud of the Pilatus company.. High quality products, like so many more from your country.
Your equally nice plane is in good company there.

So can we retrofit those new wingtips yet in the US for IO 360 DA 40s?

Not to go too far off in a tangent on this thread, but this is not going to happen:

When Diamond Canada first introduced the Lycoming IO-360 2007 DA40 XL model, they promised that the planes could be retrofitted with winglets to better fit within 40-foot T-hangars. However, during flight testing they discovered that the XL model (which included 50 gallon extended range fuel tanks) when equipped with winglets took too long to exit from a spin. The winglet-equipped planes also didn't perform quite as well as DA40s with standard wingtips. Diamond ended up refunding money to customers that had been promised the winglets.

The Swiss diesel DA40NGs in the photos have smaller fuel tanks with a smaller polar moment of inertia, which permits those aircraft to pass spin tests with winglets.
