Diamond fly-in - California
Inspired by the other fly-in thread, let's plan a left-coast Diamond fly-in:
Sunday, May 18 at Oceano (L52), at ~noon for lunch.
This is a week after Oceano's "airport day" (very crowded), and a week before Memorial Day. So it should be relatively calm on the 18th. There are several fun places to eat within a short walk.
Oceano is about equidistant from the Bay Area and LA, and is a really fun airport. The runway is short (2325'), which is tight in a DA42, but easy in a DA40. Usually the winds are brisk and right down runway 29, and DA is never an issue!
L52 is so close to the beach that on departure you have to make sure there are no kites in your flight path. If the marine layer doesn't cooperate, we can divert to SBP or even PRB. The marine layer has to be awful to affect PRB by noon.

Here are videos of arrival (during airport day) and departure. We need these in a Diamond!

Chris,
That's a great idea, and location! A good mid- point along the Cali coast everyone can reach Lunchtime!
Count me in. I'll be coming down from Lincoln (KLHM), and look forward to meeting fellow Diamond pilots.

I'm in, coming up from Santa Monica. Lunch spot?
Someone should do a head count and call ahead to a spot. (There was a cool retro diner when I was last there.)

Awesome. Hopefully other people will be able to make it, but three planes is already a quorum!Colin wrote:I'm in
I'm up for anything, but usually eat at Burger Barn (link). This is directly under Rwy 31 departures and next to the beach. However, Burger Barn definitely doesn't take reservations!!Colin wrote:Lunch spot?

Re: Diamond fly-in - California
I might be able to make it. Will be out of town that weekend but might be able to come back Saturday night instead of Sunday. I'd be coming from Orange County.

Re: Diamond fly-in - California
Sounds like we will have at least four Diamonds! Should be fun!
Can everyone considering coming please PM me your contact info (email & mobile #)?
I will put together a private mailing list so we can easily stay in touch at the last minute (weather, etc.) & while in transit.
Also, please let me know if you prefer email or SMS text.
Thanks!

Re: Diamond fly-in - California
The forecast for Sunday looks fantastic. Clear skies, mild temps, and a 14 kt wind right down the runway!
Those of you who sent me a PM, look for an email with a link to contact info. Please let me know if you don't get this email or cannot access the shared link.

Re: Diamond fly-in - California
Unfortunately, Colin & Jeffrey were unable to participate in today's adventure.
But Bob flew in with a long time DAN lurker Dennis (c'mon, get a DAN account! ), Nir was joined by his pilot-in-training-son Edam, and I brought my long-time friend Jim (behind the camera) with his son Brian.
While eating lunch, our three little Diamonds were busy driving-off all the other aircraft.
