Re: New LED Lights
I have the new Whelen LED wingtip lights and I went on my first evening/night flight yesterday and was (again) amazed at how bright the nav and strobe lights are compared to the old standard whelen unit. Upon landing, the strobes act practically as forward-facing recognition lights and do a fantastic job of illuminating the treetops and ground on approach (almost better than the rather upward-facing landing and taxi lights.) They are so bright, I now need to ensure that at night time I shut them off temporarily if I am taxing parallel to an aircraft taking off or landing.

Re: New LED Lights
Can anyone forward the documents they submitted to the FAA and received approval for the 337 install of Whelen navigation, landing, and taxi lights. I got some stuff from Whelen but my mechanic has requested I try to get more.

Re: New LED Lights
Our guy said there wasn't one for the takeoff and landing. Those are not required unless the aircraft is used commercially. He did say a modification may need to be reversible for resale )

Re: New LED Lights
Got those installed yet? I used the wheelen connectors for exactly the reason you mention. If the new owner doesent want, it's a 10 min switch out.bcocheran wrote:Our guy said there wasn't one for the takeoff and landing. Those are not required unless the aircraft is used commercially. Re: New LED Lights
This may be "splitting hairs" but I just looked at the brochure for those Whelen Orion 600 wingtip replacement lights and it's not obvious that they include a fixed white "tail light" as our OEM wingtip units do and as is required by the FAA (I believe). At nearly $1000 a set they should rub your neck and serve cocktails.

Re: New LED Lights
Thanks, Phil, for the clarification. It still seems expensive, all it has to do is prevent one mid-air to justify its existence, I suppose.

Re: New LED Lights
Just saw this, from June of this year. It's a OSB for LED landing and taxi lights. Sorry if this was already posted and I missed it.

Re: New LED Lights
Just had the Orion 600 installed. Removed 3.9 lbs from my weight and moved cg .05 inches foreward.

Re: New LED Lights
Just out of curiosity, are we legally required to file that execution form at the end of the OSB with Diamond?
