DA40/DA42 Simulator

Post by hkavasch »

As X-mas is coming closer and our little airport is mostly covered in fog I was thinking what could I do over the holidays... Decided to realize a project I have been always wanting to do... A DA40/42 Simulator..
It will have a close to real G1000 panel.. look, feel and function should be 98% like the original.

http://www.emuteq.com/G1000.html

Design / hardware spec is mostly done..

has anybody done something similar before?
Is there anybody that has a damaged D40 or DA42 frame with seats, that could be used for a flight simulator?

Any other (no longer airworthy) DA40/DA42 parts available that could be used in a simulator (power quadrant, panel, stick, ...)

Made some progress over X-MAS...

DA42 Sim installed and running...
G1000 ist pretty close to real
good tool to train and practice IFR procedures..

Also found a damaged DA40 fuselage.. but for the time being I am not going down this path.. simply too much work and money involved to make it work with a real fuselage..

Nice work Hans. I have spent years on a flying simulator but since having the privilege of flying the real thing, I dropped out.
Your setup looks great. Have you considered one of these Samsung curved displays?
And another question: wherever you found the damaged DA40 fuselage - did they also have a landing gear (I am looking for MLG struts, even damaged).

Hi Antoine, my idea was not to give up the real thing :-)
Nothing beats the feeling to fly on top with full tanks.. knowing that you can go anywhere you want..

regarding the fuselage.. I think there is a landing gear.. will PM you contacts..

Hans,

that is an awesome setup. Maybe you can post more pictures. I would especially be interested in the cabling... how did you do that?

I have not posted before on this forum, but when I saw this thread I thought I would share my home simulator set up.

I, too, used the Emuteq G1000 PFD, MFD, and Audio Panel. The hardware is driven by Flight 1 Aviation Technologies G1000 software. I integrated all of the hardware, including switches, landing gear, back-up instruments, Hobbs meter, and LED lighting into a panel constructed from MDF.

I am extremely happy with the performance and the ability to fly IFR with 80-85% G1000 functionality.

Hi David,

quite an impressive setup. You must have invested >10K €.
Are you using it just for yourself, or did you find a way to get some money back..?
I'll PM you.. have some questions on the setup and flight1tech stability
